1st Place at Aggies Invent Engineering Competition
While attending Texas A&M University for my summer undergradaute research program I participated in a 48-hour engineering competition hosted in their newly constructed Engineering Innovation Center. As a team of 5 students we competed against 42 other engineering and medical students to design and prototype a medical device for a challenge presented to us by one of the competition’s sponsors. My team was challenged by Baylor Scott & White to design a device that could combat medical issues of incontinence. Our team devised a device worn like an undergarment which has built in electromyography sensors to measure the activity of muscles around the pelvis. The device would be used as a training aid for the user to receive live feedback about the muscles that they can control either during urination or through a muscle therapy program. Our design, prototype, and presentation resulted in our team winning the competition in 1st place!
